Pine Prairie knocked down by Iota; Basile tripped up

Tuesday night was not a fruitful night for some of the parish teams, as both Pine Prairie hard court teams were knocked down by the Iota and the Basile boys were tripped up by undefeated Grand Lake.

Highway 13 split

MAMOU -- It was a battle between the Northern and Southern part of the parish Friday night as the Pine Prairie basketball teams headed down Highway 13 to take on the Mamou hard court squads.

Parish teams have semi-successful outings Friday

It was not the most successful night for two of four parish teams that took to the floor in district play Friday night. However, the other two squads were able to come away with convincing league wins.

Two huge bites

VILLE PLATTE -- The Ville Platte High Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs got the opportunity to take two big bites in the race for district supremacy as they took down the Mamou Demons and Lady Demons in a league doubleheader Tuesday night.

Sacred Heart girls pull off win; boys drop close one

VILLE PLATTE -- The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans and Trojans tag teamed the Westminster Crusaders and Lady Crusaders Tuesday night. The Lady Trojans were able to pull ahead towards the end of their game, securing a 53-30 win.

Basile, Pine Prairie take big district hits at home Tuesday

Tuesday night was not kind to both Pine Prairie and Basile High basketball squads as all four teams took big hits at home in district competition. First, the Basile Lady Bearcats let a two point third quarter lead evaporate in a 70-67 loss to the Oberlin Lady Tigers.

Unable to “Bear” down

BASILE -- The Basile Bearcats and Lady Bearcats were unable to bear down when needed, as they dropped district contests to the Gueydan Bears and Honey Bears Friday night. The Lady Bearcats could not overcome the inside game of Gueydan, as they fell for the fifth time in a row in a 63-51 loss.

Parish teams battle all this week to stay in playoff chase

The battle to either stay at the top of the playoff power ranking or just to stay in the playoff chase continued in full force for teams around the parish this week.

NEW ORLEANS -- For the second time in school history, the LSU Tigers have ended their season with a perfect record and a National Championship as they came from behind to take down No. 3 Clemson 42-25 in the College Football Playoff title game Monday night.

Lady Panthers slip past Lady Bulldogs for first league win

PINE PRAIRIE -- In one of the hardest fought games all season for both teams, the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers pulled out a last minute win over the Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs in the first district action of the season.
