Pine Prairie knocked down by Iota; Basile tripped up

Tuesday night was not a fruitful night for some of the parish teams, as both Pine Prairie hard court teams were knocked down by the Iota and the Basile boys were tripped up by undefeated Grand Lake.
Outside of Kameron Allen, the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers got very little offensive production from the rest of the team as they dropped their third district game of the year to the Iota Lady Bulldogs 45-34. With the loss, Pine Prairie falls to 19-8 on the season and 2-3 in district play.
In the boy’s contest, Pine Prairie found themselves behind by 14 points after the first quarter of play and never recovered in a 60-34 loss to Iota. The Panthers drop to 1-22 on the year and 0-3 in league competition.
Finally, the Basile Bearcats just could not match-up with the undefeated and No. 2 ranked Grand Lake Hornets in a 89-47 home district loss. Basile is now 2-16 on the season and 1-7 in the District 4-1A standings.
Here is a rundown of those three games.

Iota (G) vs. Pine Prairie
From the start of the game, the two teams seemed to trade blow for blow. Behind Brianna Wall’s four points and Allen’s three-point basket, Pine Prairie was able to keep it within three, 14-11, as the horn sounded to end the first quarter.
The Lady Panthers turned up the defensive pressure in the second quarter, but struggled to find offense. Despite that struggle, Pine Prairie out scored Iota 9-8 to trail by two at the half.
However, those offensive struggles continued in the second half for the Lady Panthers, as they could only score seven points in each of the next two quarters. The Lady Bulldogs found double digits in those same quarters to finish out the win.

Iota (B) vs. Pine Prairie
It was a very inauspicious start for Pine Prairie, as they grappled to find any offense in the first quarter. By the time the period ended, the Panthers trailed 17-3 to Iota.
Pine Prairie picked up the pace offensively in the second quarter scoring 13 points. Nevertheless, the Panthers failed to reach double digits in the final two quarters.

Basile (B)
vs. Grand Lake
Grand Lake showed why they are the No. 2 team in Class 1A as they jumped out to a 51-15 lead over Basile at the half and continued to rack up the points in the final two quarters of the game.
