Parish teams have semi-successful outings Friday

It was not the most successful night for two of four parish teams that took to the floor in district play Friday night. However, the other two squads were able to come away with convincing league wins.
One of those successful teams, the Ville Platte Bulldogs, continued their winning ways by downing the Iota Bulldogs 54-31 in a District 5-3A contest. The Bulldogs are now 16-8 on the year and 2-0 in district play.
In girls’ action, the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans collected their second district win of the season with an impressive 46-19 drubbing of Catholic of Pointe Coupee. The Lady Trojans improved to 10-12 on the season and 2-0 in league competition.
In other girls’ action, the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers picked up a huge 42-40 non-district win over highly ranked Reeves High School on Thursday night. The win is No. 16 on the year for the Lady Panthers.
On the flip side, the Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs did not have enough fire power to overcome the Iota Lady Bulldogs as they took one on the chin in a 60-31 loss. The Lady Bulldogs even their record to 11-11 on the year and drop to 1-3 in district competition.
Also taking a hard fought loss was the Sacred Heart Trojans as they could not overcome a seven point deficit after one quarter of play in a 39-37 game against Catholic of Point Coupee. The Trojans now stand at 5-17 on the season and 0-1 in league play.
Here is a rundown of those four games.

Ville Platte vs. Iota (B)
It did not take the Bulldogs long establish themselves as the better team. Behind two three-point baskets from Tye’Wuan Byers, Ville Platte jumped out to a 15-8 lead in the first quarter.
The Bulldogs did not let off of the gas in the second period. During that eight minute quarter, Tahj Roy hit a duo of three-point baskets to lead Ville Platte to a 20-6 advantage and allowed the Bulldogs to open up a 35-14 halftime lead.
The final two quarters were rather low scoring for both teams. In the third quarter, Ville Platte outpaced Iota 8-5, with the Acadia Parish Bulldogs owning a 12-11 advantage in the final quarter.
Terrian Roy notched 19 points to lead Ville Platte, while RJ Willimas chipped in 13 points. Tahj Roy contributed 10 points in the win.

Ville Platte vs. Iota (G)
The Lady Bulldogs were out matched from the start, finishing the first quarter trailing Iota 17-8. Ville Platte got back on track offensively, however, Iota was still able to come away with a 16-11 advantage in the period to hold a 33-19 lead heading into the locker room.
Iota extended their lead even farther after out scoring the Lady Bulldogs 20-9 in the third quarter. The game closed out with Iota taking a 7-3 scoring advantage in final eight minutes of the contest.
Tahjalyn Jack had nine points to lead Ville Platte.

Catholic, PC vs.
Sacred Heart (G)
The Lady Trojans found a soft spot in the Catholic defense from the very first seconds of the game. Using the inside game, Sacred Heart’s Blair Lafleur notched 10 of the team’s first 11 points, as the Lady Trojans worked their way to an 11-9 lead after one period of play.
Scoring slowed down considerably in the second period. With the two teams combining for only nine total points, Sacred Heart headed into the locker room with a slim 17-12 lead.
The Lady Trojans got it going again in the third quarter, out scoring the Lady Hornets 13-5. Sacred Heart finished off Catholic in the final period, as they blew past the Lady Hornets 16-2 to close out the big win.
Lafleur ended the game with a net scorching 28 points to lead the Lady Trojans.

Catholic, PC vs.
Sacred Heart (B)
The first quarter proved to be the downfall for the Trojans, as Catholic was able to open up a 17-10 lead when the horn sounded to end the period.
Sacred Heart gained some ground in the second quarter, outpacing the Hornets 13-7 and only trailed by one heading into the locker room.
A low scoring quarter proved to be to the Catholic advantage in the third period, as the Hornets out scored the Trojans 7-4.
Despite their 10-8 advantage in the final quarter, Sacred Heart just could not make up the ground needed to take the win.
Austin Darbonne netted 10 points to lead the Trojans in the loss.

Pine Prairie
vs. Reeves (G)
Pine Prairie trailed 11-6 after one quarter of play, but picked up the pace enough to out score Reeves 14-12 in the second period and head into the locker room only down by three, 23-20.
Halftime adjustments were the key for the Lady Panthers in the third quarter of action, as they took over the lead with a 10-3 advantage. Pine Prairie was able to hold off a late charge from Reeves in the final quarter to hold on for the win.
