Boggy Bayou Festival makes donation

A donation was recently made from the Boggy Bayou Festival Association to the Prairie Manor Nursing Home. A check in the amount $17 thousand for the purchase a whirlpool tub for the residents was made. Every year the festival donates proceeds to the nursing home from the annual festival.

Christmas events in Evangeline Parish got underway on Saturday, December 2, with the annual parade in Pine Prairie. Other events over the weekend included celebrations in Chataignier and Ville Platte.

Parish basketball tournament begins

The Evangeline Parish Basketball Tournament began on Wednesday, November 29, in Basile with the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans playing the host Lady Bearcats. The Sacred Heart Trojans then played the Bearcats, and the first day concluded with a pair of games between Mamou and Pine Prairie.

The winners of the Ville Platte Gazette’s football contest joined together for a photo opportunity on Thursday, November 30.

A ribbon cutting was held on Wednesday, November 22, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of KVPI AM/FM in Ville Platte. The owners, past and present employees, and other members of the community are pictured for the special event.

Evangeline Community Action, Inc., in partnership with EHDOC, held its quarterly network meeting on November 28. Guest speakers were Carleen Jones, SLCC; Lisa DeRouen, Evangeline Council on Aging; and Valencia Harris, St. Landry CAA AmeriCorps Seniors.

VPE students learn about African culture

On Tuesday, November 14, French Immersion students enjoyed a full day of learning all about African culture. Several stations were set up to teach students about cuisine, mask making, art, dance and oral tradition.
