Quarterly network meeting is held

Evangeline Community Action, Inc., in partnership with EHDOC, held its quarterly network meeting on November 28. Guest speakers were Carleen Jones, SLCC; Lisa DeRouen, Evangeline Council on Aging; and Valencia Harris, St. Landry CAA AmeriCorps Seniors.

VPE students learn about African culture

On Tuesday, November 14, French Immersion students enjoyed a full day of learning all about African culture. Several stations were set up to teach students about cuisine, mask making, art, dance and oral tradition.

Evangeline Community Action’s C.W.I.A. (Christian Women In Action) hosted its inaugural 100 Girl Lock-In. The theme for this grand event was “I Bloom, You Bloom, We Bloom together” because we cannot do it alone and it takes a village.

Spooky Halloween events are held

Chateau des Amis held its annual Halloween party on Thursday, October 26. A good time was enjoyed by all. In the top left photo, residents Jeanette Liggins and Rosary Olivas enjoyed a dance to Cajun music.

Red Ribbon Rally is held in Mamou

Mamou Junior High held a Red Ribbon Rally on Thursday, October 26, as part of Red Ribbon Week.

MRMC holds Cancer Walk

On Wednesday, October 25, Mercy Regional Medical Center held its annual Cancer Walk in memory of loved ones who lost their lives to cancer or in support of those who are currently battling cancer. It was a beautiful morning for the one-mile walk around the track located in front of the hospital.

District cross country winners

Pine Prairie cross country teams (top photo) participated in the district meet. In girls’ junior varsity, Kylie Veillon placed first; and in boys’ junior varsity, Alex Melancon and Julian Robles participated. The Lady Panther varsity team finished as district champions.

15th Annual Mamou Savoy Cancer Center walk held

The 15th annual Savoy Cancer Center Cancer Awareness Walk was held Saturday morning, October 21. A huge turn out enjoyed the beautiful weather and walked in support of loved ones who are cancer survivors, currently facing cancer or have passed away from cancer.
