Chateau des Amis residents celebrate Easter

Residents of Chateau des Amis celebrated Easter early on Tuesday, March 19. They had a great time pocking eggs with each other and enjoyed a delicious barbecue lunch. Donated door prizes were also presented to several of the residents.

Donation is presented to EPSO

On February 5, the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office was given a donation of $1,500.00 from Boardwalk/Texas Gas Pipeline Company towards the purchase of new 700 mhz portable radios. The donation was presented on February 8 by representative Brian Johnson (right) to Sheriff Guillory (left).

Donation is presented for Mardi Gras Social

JD Bank presented a $500 donation to Savoy Medical Center for the 16th annual Mardi Gras Social, which was held at La Cabon on Monday, February 12. The social benefits the Savoy Indigent Patient Support. Pictured from left are Lucas Tate, of JD Bank, and Angela Fontenot, of Savoy Medical Center.

Courir de Mardi Gras in Mamou

With sunny skies overhead, the annual Mamou Courir de Mardi Gras took place on Tuesday, February 13. In the top photo, the Mardi Gras riders approach Oberlin Road near the home of Wanda Verrette. In the photo on the left, one of the riders dances on his horse during the lunch break.

Swamp Pop Reunion is held

The 18th annual Swamp Pop Reunion Dance was held on Monday, February 12, at the Ville Platte Civic Center. The evening began with an open house at the Louisiana Swamp Pop Museum. In the top photo, Charles Mann (seated on the right) is presented with a commemorative T-Shirt while at the museum.

Drone training begins

Following the donation of a drone from Kinder Morgan, the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office began its training for the new device and put it in the air for the first time on Monday, January 29.

Donation is received

Roy Motors gave $1,500 to Sacred Heart towards a religious project on the elementary campus. The project will be an outdoor rosary for the school’s teachers and students to enjoy. The project has been planned for over a year.

Frozen weather hits parish

Frigid weather moved into the Evangeline Parish area beginning on Monday, January 15, with wintry precipitation and multiple winter hazards including dangerous temperatures and wind chills that remained in effect until Wednesday, January 17.

Parish committee honors Martin Luther King Jr

Despite temperatures hovering around the freezing mark, parish residents turned out to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Center in Ville Platte as The Evangeline Parish Martin Luther King Jr. Foundation Committee hosted the annual memorial celebration on Monday, January 15.
