Red Ribbon Rally is held in Mamou

Mamou Junior High held a Red Ribbon Rally on Thursday, October 26, as part of Red Ribbon Week.

MRMC holds Cancer Walk

On Wednesday, October 25, Mercy Regional Medical Center held its annual Cancer Walk in memory of loved ones who lost their lives to cancer or in support of those who are currently battling cancer. It was a beautiful morning for the one-mile walk around the track located in front of the hospital.

District cross country winners

Pine Prairie cross country teams (top photo) participated in the district meet. In girls’ junior varsity, Kylie Veillon placed first; and in boys’ junior varsity, Alex Melancon and Julian Robles participated. The Lady Panther varsity team finished as district champions.

15th Annual Mamou Savoy Cancer Center walk held

The 15th annual Savoy Cancer Center Cancer Awareness Walk was held Saturday morning, October 21. A huge turn out enjoyed the beautiful weather and walked in support of loved ones who are cancer survivors, currently facing cancer or have passed away from cancer.

PPHS Panther Band racks up the awards

The Pine Prairie High School Panther Band left the Lake Charles Toyota Gulf Coast Marching Band Championship held at McNeese State University Saturday, October 14, with 11 trophies. The competition featured 19 bands from Texas to Mississippi, eight of which were in Class A.

SHS 2023 Homecoming Court announced

Sacred Heart High School will celebrate its Homecoming Friday, October 27, with a game against the Opelousas Catholic Vikings. A Homecoming Community Rosary will be held on Thursday, October 26, beginning at 6 p.m. Homecoming festivities will continue on Friday beginning with a Mass at 8:10 a.m.

Mickal, of Lafayette, is crowned Queen Cotton LXIX

Amelia Claire Mickal, the 20-year-old daughter of Tim and Colleen Mickal of Lafayette, was crowned Queen Cotton LXIX during pageant festivities held Saturday afternoon, October 14, at the Northside Civic Center.

Louisiana Cotton Festival is underway

The 69th Louisiana Cotton Festival kicked off on Monday with the 4-H Cotton Food Fest and Cotton Pickin Pet Show at the Northside Civic Center. In the top left photo is Georgiana LaHaye who won grand champion in the Medium/Large Dog Best Costumed Pair contest with her dog Honeybee.

A hoot and a hoorah is held at Lakeview

Lakeview Park and Beach, for the second year in a row, was the host site for Le Grand Hoorah. The festivities began on Saturday, September 30, and ended with a French Mass at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday with Fr. Keenan Brown, of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Basile, officiating.
