Frigid weather moved into the Evangeline Parish area beginning on Monday, January 15, with wintry precipitation and multiple winter hazards including dangerous temperatures and wind chills that remained in effect until Wednesday, January 17. Dangerous black ice on bridges and overpasses was also reported. The weather caused school closures across the parish. Most schools reopened on Thursday, January 18, however, Chataignier Elementary and Evangeline Central did not reopen until the following day because of water related issues. Meanwhile, in Basile, the Basile Water System lost water pressure overnight on Wednesday causing an early dismissal at Basile High School and W.W. Stewart. Both schools remained closed on Friday.
