Contradansers keep tradition alive at Cotton Festival

This year’s youth Contradanse team has been practicing hard under the leadership of instructors Melanie and Rob Soileau. They will perform Tuesday evening, October 10, at the Northside Civic Center to help officially kick off Cotton Festival Week. Doors for the event will open at 5 p.m.

Ville Platte High School will celebrate its homecoming Friday, October 6, with a game against the Mamou High Green Demons. The parade will begin at 3 p.m. Lineup for the parade will commence at 2 p.m. on the day of the festivities, and the game will start at 6 p.m.

Heritage Manor honors grandparents of the year

Alvin Soileau (top photo) and Hattie Pouncey (bottom photo) were chosen as Grandparents of the Year for Grandparents Day at Heritage Manor. Soileau has two sons, three grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He is 101 years old, a WWII veteran of the U.S.

A retirement ceremony for Sacred Heart Elementary Principal Virginia Morein was held inside Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church on Thursday, September 7. During the ceremony, members from each class presented Morein with yellow roses.
