New school year begins at SHS

A new school year at Sacred Heart School began on Tuesday, August 15. The day was highlighted with school Masses for the Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is a Holy Day of Obligation.

Services are held for fallen deputy marshal

Funeral services for Ville Platte Deputy Marshal Barry Giglio were held on Wednesday, August 9, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Belle Chasse. Visitation preceded the funeral that morning at 9 a.m., and Deputy Giglio was buried at Lakelawn Cemetery in Metairie.

The Ville Platte East 6U T-Ball All-Stars traveled to Center, Texas, to take part in the Dixie Youth Region III World Series. In the first pool play game on Thursday, the team blew past the host team, Shelby County, Texas, by a score of 23-15.

The undefeated run continues for the Mamou Dixie Youth Coach Pitch All-Stars as they won the district tournament in Ville Platte. The team now competes in the state tournament in Metairie beginning on Thursday, July 13.

Vietnam Veterans of America holds state convention, presents awards

The Vietnam Veterans of America held its 34th annual State Convention from June 23 through June 25 at Coushatta Casino Resort in Kinder. Friday night featured a hospitality night, an auction, and a live band; on Saturday night, the state council held its awards banquet.

Mamou Coach Pitch All-Stars head into district undefeated

The Mamou Dixie Youth Coach Pitch All-Stars scored 96 runs, allowed 13 runs, and went undefeated in six games during their sub-district tournament. The team now plays in the District 7 Tournament, which begins today at the Ville Platte/ Evangeline Parish Recreational Complex.
