Bourque is laid to rest

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 7, for Erven Bourque, who served more than 35 years in law enforcement for the Ville Platte Police Department and the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office. Burial followed at the Old Ville Platte Cemetery.

Clothing Boutique in Ville Platte celebrates grand opening

A ribbon cutting celebrating the grand opening of Anna Ryan’s Boutique, offering women and men’s clothing and accessories, was held on Saturday, July 27, at its location, 523 West Main, in Ville Platte. It was a gorgeous day for the special occasion.

Library celebrates 100th French program

The main library in Ville Platte recently celebrated its 100th Creole French Table. Kudos was given to staff member Patricia Harris who facilitates the program. The group enjoyed cake, boudin, cracklins, and chicken wings along with special gifts donated by Security Finance.

McGee named Wastewater Operator of the Year

State champions

For the first time in the rich history of Ville Platte Dixie Youth Baseball, the 7U Coach Pitch All-Stars have won the state championship. The team took home the hardware after a 10-0 win over Minden in the state tournament held in Tioga. Coverage of the tournament can be found on Page 5.

Mamou Super 10s place in regionals

The Mamou Super 10 All-Stars won the District 7 tournament, which was played in Leesville from June 20 to June 23. The team then competed in the North Regional Tournament and came out in third place. That tournament was held in Alexandria from July 5 to July 8.

On Saturday, June 29, Union Tank Car basketball team was crowned 2024 champions of the Evangeline/St. Landry Intramural Employee Basketball League. This league showcases the basketball talent of employees who compete against each other for a championship while representing their employers.
