Two decades after capturing the Class 2A state championship, members of the 2005 Pine Prairie softball team returned for a pre-game celebration on Thursday, April 3, before the current team’s game against Buckeye. Strong storms moved across the Evangeline Parish area, on Monday, March 31. According to unofficial reports, four inches of rain fell in Ville Platte alone. The rainfall caused several city streets to be closed and for several traffic lights to lose service.

Mamou Elementary holds French Night

Mamou Elementary was transformed to feature a little bit of France as the French Immersion students held their annual French Night, on Wednesday, March 26. The night began with kindergarten students giving a presentation on the Country of Senegal.

On Thursday, March 13, area seniors enjoyed the annual French Retreat sponsored by the Catholic Daughters. They enjoyed a special mass in French and English led by Father Tom Voorhies, as well as games, refreshments and fellowship.

VPHS band performs at festival

On Saturday, March 8, the Ville Platte High School Marching Band concluded its season with a performance in Independence. The invitation to participate in the Independence Sicilian Heritage Festival Parade came after the band’s outstanding performance at the Mardi Gras festivities in Hammond.
