Ashley Gorrell of Baton Rouge, a former Queen Cotton contestant, recently represented Evangeline Parish at the Louisiana Fur and Wildlife Festival Pageant held Saturday, December 28, in Cameron Parish. After being crowned queen, Gorell posed with Cotton Festival Pageant Director Katelyn Calhoun.

The Turkey Creek Christmas parade was held Saturday, December 21 at 11 a.m. It ended in Drouet Park were there were food booths, games and also drawings for free turkeys.

The City of Ville Platte held its Christmas parade on Sunday, December 15. The day began with Cookies and Milk with Santa and Mrs. Claus at city hall, and the parade began at 5:30 p.m.

Christmas events in Evangeline Parish began on Sunday, December 1, with the Chataignier Christmas Parade. Lineup began at Carver Elementary School, and the parade ended at the village hall, where Santa Claus was available for photographs. The village Christmas Tree was also lit following the parade.

Ashton Bias, of Ville Platte High School, was presented with his T-shirt for being named Player of the Week in Week 10. During a 55-28 loss to Church Point to close out the football season, the Ville Platte quarterback threw three touchdown passes.

A new welcome sign for the City of Ville Platte was unveiled on Friday, November 8. The new sign is located at the eastern entrance of the city in front of the Tobacco Plus location and was purchased through a grant from the Evangeline Parish Tourist Commission.
