On Monday, November 11, several different celebrations were held in Evangeline Parish in honor of Veterans Day. In Mamou, the annual Veterans Day Parade was held down 6th Street and ended at the American Legion Hall. After the parade, a ceremony and a cake auction was held.

Kary’s Roux and Pig Stand Bar-B-Q Sauce has again this year sponsored the Ville Platte Gazette’s Player of the Week. This year, the Ville Platte based business began sponsoring a T-shirt which was presented to each week’s winner.

The Louisiana Swine Festival was held in Basile from Friday, November 1, through Sunday, November 3. On Saturday, the festival featured a Pork Cook-off, Queens’ Boudin Eating Contest, Queens’ Greasy Pig Chase, Kids’ Greasy Pig Chase, and Hog Calling and Boudin Eating Contest.

Businesses around town got in the Halloween spirit on Thursday as employees dressed up in their favorite costumes. At the Evangeline Bank and Trust Company, the employees at the Ville Platte branch competed against employees of the other branches.

After his Basile team earned a 26-0 win over Oberlin on Halloween night, Jackson Courville was presented with a T-Shirt in recognition of being the Ville Platte Gazette’s Player of the Week in Week 2. That week he solidified the Bearcats’ win over Mamou with a 1-yard touchdown run.

A large crowd turned out for the Rock The Block in Ville Platte, on Thursday, October 24, and the Third Annual Boo in da Mou along Sixth Street in Mamou, on Sunday, October 20. Many local businesses from both municipalities gathered to dress up and hand out candy to the youth of the communities.
