On the evening of July 31, 2023, Ville Platte Deputy Marshal Barry Giglio was shot and killed in the line of duty while assisting the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office to execute a search warrant.

Following the resignation of Brittany Guillory as chief of police in Turkey Creek, the village council, during a special meeting held Thursday, August 1, voted to name Travis Basco as acting chief.

LSP makes arrest for possession of child sexual abuse material and narcotics

MAMOU - On July 31, the Louisiana State Police Special Victim’s Unit (LSP SVU) arrested an individual on charges related to the possession of child sexual abuse material and narcotics. The investigation resulted in the arrest of 42-year-old Trevor Matthews Sr., of Mamou.

According to the Ville Platte Police Department, the case is closed and no criminal investigation will take place in connection with a syringe found in a bag at a local fast-food restaurant.

Marijuana plants and weapons are recovered

On July 11, narcotic agents with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office received information about a residence where suspected marijuana plants were being cultivated on the 1300 block of Saddler Street, in Turkey Creek.
