An overdue experience

By: TONY MARKS Editor When servicemembers returned from the Vietnam War, many of them were spit upon and disrespected instead of being honored for their bravery and their sacrifice. As the decades roll on, however, these veterans are starting to see the appreciation that is long overdue.

Kennedy wins re-election

By: TONY MARKS Editor United States Senator John Kennedy has won re-election after defeating a crowded field of candidates. Here in Evangeline Parish, the Republican senator received 7,841 votes. The closest vote getter in the parish was Gary Chambers Jr. with 1,524 votes.

John Kennedy was raised in Zachary and graduated from Zachary High School. He graduated magna cum laude in political science, philosophy and economics from Vanderbilt University and was president of his senior class.

Birthday celebration is held for La. Swamp Pop Museum

By: TONY MARKS Editor Several icons of the legendary Swamp Pop music gathered together and shared stories of their memorable careers while celebrating the 12th birthday of the Louisiana Swamp Pop Museum. An open house was held at the museum beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday, October 28.

By: HEATHER BOGARD Associate Editor Grace Bordelon, a senior at Pine Prairie High School, recently received the honor of making the All-State Symphonic Band. After two rounds of tryouts, which are open to all band students throughout the state, she made eighth chair clarinet.
