PINEVILLE – Louisiana Christian University women's basketball player Miya McKinney has continued to add awards and accolades since the conclusion of the 2022-23 season.
A senior from Ville Platte, McKinney was named the Red River Athletic Conference's Player of the Year for women's basketball at the end of the regular season and named to the All-RRAC First Team. Last week she also earned Honorable Mention on the NAIA's All-American list.
Prior to the start of the RRAC Tournament, McKinney averaged 17.7 points and 12.9 rebounds per game, which ranked second in the conference in each category. She posted 19 double-doubles throughout the season, which included one stretch of 10 consecutive double-double games in conference play.
A transfer from LSU–Eunice, McKinney came to Louisiana Christian in time for the 2020-21 season, the Wildcats' last as members of the NCAA's Division III and the American Southwest Conference. During that COVID-shortened season, she averaged 8.0 points and 7.7 rebounds per contest.
McKinney was a key component to LCU's success as the Wildcats transitioned into the NAIA and the RRAC. During her final two seasons in an LCU uniform, McKinney averaged 14.7 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. Those two seasons saw McKinney shoot 56 percent (306 of 546) from the field.
Against Huston-Tillotson in the 2022-23 regular-season finale, McKinney scored a career-high 29 points. She set a career best for rebounds with 23 in the team's win over LSU–Shreveport at home on January 23 of this season.
With McKinney leading the way, the Wildcats finished 17-12 and 13-7 in conference play. LCU defeated Rapides Parish rival LSU–Alexandria in the opening round of the RRAC Tournament.
McKinney was joined on the All-RRAC teams by teammates Claire Borot and Paola Abad Prieto, who were each named to the conference's Second Team.
McKinney is a 2017 graduate of Ville Platte High School.
She will graduate in May of 2023 from Louisiana Christian University in Pineville.
Parents are Lucian and Niki McKinney of Ville Platte.
Grandparents are Percy Adams of Ville Platte and the late Gwendolyn Adams, Glenn and Justine Lane of Memphis, Tennessee, and Lucian and Sherry McKinney Sr. of Phoenix, Arizona.
