LSP makes arrest for possession of child sexual abuse material and narcotics

MAMOU - On July 31, the Louisiana State Police Special Victim’s Unit (LSP SVU) arrested an individual on charges related to the possession of child sexual abuse material and narcotics. The investigation resulted in the arrest of 42-year-old Trevor Matthews Sr., of Mamou.

NEW ORLEANS - The Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) celebrated some of the state’s most outstanding teachers and leaders at the 18th Annual Cecil J. Picard Educator Excellence Awards Gala at the World War II Museum.

The Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) released LEAP results for the 2023-2024 school year. Statewide data shows Louisiana students maintained recent gains made on the state assessment that measures proficiency in core academic subjects.

BATON ROUGE - The Louisiana Press Association announced the winners of the 2023 Better Newspaper Competition on July 19 at the Baton Rouge City Club. Among those receiving top awards were both publications in Evangeline Parish- the Ville Platte Gazette and The Basile Weekly.
