Second annual Bastrop, Texas, Mardi Gras is held

The Second Annual Bastrop, Texas, Mardi Gras was held this past weekend. Members of the Evangeline Parish Tourist Commission, KVPI Radio, the Boggy Bayou Festival, and other members of the parish made the trip to participate in the festivities. The weekend began on Friday, January 31, with a Mardi Gras Ball. The fun continued the following day with a Mardi Gras Parade, children’s chicken chase, and a street dance with performances from Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, Leroy Thomas and the Zydeco Roadrunners, and Jamie Bergeron and the Kickin’ Cajuns. The day also featured a Gumbo Cookoff. Winning the competition for the second year in a row was the Boggy Bayou Festival. Andy Carson, president of the Boggy Bayou Festival shared his group represented the festival and Prairie Manor Nursing Home. He also wished to thank their sponsors Cabot Corporation, T-Boys Slaughter House, Mikey’s Doughnuts, E.L.E. Construction, The Sherman Place, TJ’s Tire, Glitz Hair Salon, Andy Carson Ward 4 Constable Evangeline Parish, and S2 Ranch and thanked all of their friends and family who made the trip to help and support them.
