VPHS issues statement after homecoming incident

Ville Platte High School issued the following statement after its homecoming game was cancelled because of a shooting outside the stadium.
What began as a beautiful Homecoming celebration ended in tragedy for so many. Shortly into the second quarter, a shooting in the community near the stadium led to the cancellation of our game and the eventual evacuation of all attendees. The safety of everyone was, and will always remain, our top priority.

To Ville Platte High School, Church Point High School, and the entire Ville Platte community, we are deeply saddened that such a memorable occasion ended this way. Both schools were represented with tremendous pride, the stadium was filled with supporters, ample law enforcement was present, we were moments away from presenting our Royal Homecoming Court and a team would eventually take home the victory.

We are devastated by the life lost to gun violence and the injuries sustained by others. This is not what Homecoming represents. On behalf of VPHS, we extend our heartfelt condolences and sincerest prayers to every family and individual impacted by this tragedy.

We are especially grateful to law enforcement for their swift response and to both schools’ students, coaches, faculty, administrators, and spectators for their urgency and cooperation. Additionally, thank you to EPSB and APSB for their guidance, concern, and continued support.

We do plan to coordinate a modified presentation of our Royal Homecoming Court, including the official recognition of our Honor Maid and Homecoming Queen.

To those continuing to participate in Homecoming festivities, please remain vigilant and prioritize safety.

Please keep the families affected and the entire City of Ville Platte lifted in prayer. 💜

With heartfelt sympathy,

Ville Platte High School Administration
