Hall sworn in as Mamou’s new Chief of Police

On Thursday, December 29, Charles “Pat” Hall was sworn in as the Chief of Police for the Town of Mamou by Judge Chuck West at St. Paul Baptist Church in Mamou. In the top left photo, Hall (left) is administered the oath of office by Judge West as his wife, Ranisha Hall, holds the Bible.

Mamou officials take oaths of office

On Monday, December 26, the newly-elected Mamou mayor and council members, along with the town magistrate, were sworn in during a ceremony held at the Mamou Recreational Center. In the top left photo, Leisa Deshotel is sworn in as mayor by Judge Chuck West.

Chateau Des Amis celebrates Christmas

Residents of Chateau Des Amis celebrated Christmas on Wednesday, December 21. Presiding over the festivities was Evangeline Parish Clerk of Court Randy Deshotel. The day featured gifts being distributed from Mercy Regional Medical Center, Christmas carols, and a lunch.

Live Nativity is presented

CCD students from St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou presented a live Nativity following the 5 p.m. Mass on Sunday, December 18. The event was hosted by the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Daughters of America, who served gumbo, hot chocolate, and other treats, and featured sheep and chickens.

Candlelight vigil is held

A candlelight vigil was held Monday, December 12, in Turkey Creek at Jake’s Seafood & Grill and was sponsored by the support group Left Behind that is held monthly at the restaurant. The group was created this past year when parents were asking for help with their grief.

EPPJ holds French meeting

The Evangeline Parish Police Jury held its annual French meeting on Tuesday, December 13. After the opening prayer, Pledge of Allegiance, National Anthem were conducted in French, French Immersion students from Ville Platte Elementary and Mamou Elementary (top photo) performed Christmas carols.

Santa visits Mamou bringing Christmas cheer

Tribute to Rodrigue is held

The main branch of the Evangeline Parish Library hosted a holiday event called Tribute to Rodrigue with Miss Ville Platte 2023 Anna Steckler and her father, Gary.
