By: LISA SOILEAUX LSN Editor RAYNE - A full slate of new Frog Festival royalty was named last weekend from a bevy of beauties, each receiving their crowns and banners as they will represent Rayne and the Frog Festival during the upcoming 2022-23 year. March 26th’s pageantry began at 2 p.m.
The Sacred Heart Trojan powerlifting team competed at the state championships and returned home as runner-up. Pictured in no particular order are Jackson Manuel, Isiah Rion, Jesse Johnson, Jude Hebert, Hunter Pitre, Michael Fontenot, Colton Manuel, Dylan Doucet, Everette Johnson, Silas Chesne, Madeline Fuselier, Adeline Launey, Lily Deshotel, Abby Quibodeaux, head coach Duane Urbina, assistant coach Robert Soileau, and assistant coach Jacob Reed. By: RHETT MANUEL Sports Editor What a weekend for the Sacred Heart powerlifting programs. The boys team was the state runner-up in Division V of the LHSAA powerlifting state championships this past weekend, while the girls’ program finished fifth. In the boys meet, the Trojans scored 35 points.

Staff Report The Evangeline Parish Sheriff Department Narcotics Unit, on Wednesday, March 23, conducted a search warrant on a residence in the Mocsim Subdivision in the Mamou area. Agents entered the residence and detained several suspects without incident.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at 10 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou for Edna B. Fuselier, age 81. Edna peacefully passed away on March 27, 2022, surrounded by loved ones, after a 12-year battle with Alzheimer’s. Internment followed in the New St. Ann’s Cemetery.
