Victims are air lifted after shooting on Owen Street

Two victims were air lifted to Lafayette General Medical Center after sustaining gun shot wounds. According to Ville Platte Chief of Police Al Perry Thomas, the incident occurred between midnight and 12:30 a.m. on Monday, May 1, on Owen Street.

Police were baffled after someone used a cutting torch to open the vault in a store in the LaHaye building in Ville Platte early in the morning of June 21, 1962. The culprits got away with $20,000 — which may still be the biggest robbery ever in Evangeline Parish.

On Monday, April 24, at approximately 12:35 p.m., officers with the Ville Platte Police Department responded to a call of an unresponsive black male at 621 E. Beauregard St. Upon entering the residence, Det. Sgt.

A suspect, identified as James “Jimbo” Fontenot, is in custody and was booked into the Evangeline Parish Jail on Wednesday, April 26. He was apprehended earlier in the day at a hotel off of I-49 in Avoyelles Parish.
