MAMOU - Helena F. Fontenot passed away peacefully on April 20, 2023, at Heritage Manor of Ville Platte. Visitation will be today, April 27, 2023, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial directly following. Burial will be at the New St.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Ninth Baptist Church for Mr. Allen J. Poullard Sr., 70, who entered eternal rest on Friday, April 14, 2023, at his residence in Ville Platte. Interment will be in Ninth Baptist Church Cemetery in Ville Platte.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. today, April 27, 2023, at Disciples Baptist Church in Ville Platte for Mrs. Margie Robinson, 83, who entered eternal rest, Monday, April 24, 2023, at her residence in Denham Springs. Interment will be in St. Paul Baptist Church Cemetery in Ville Platte.

OPELOUSAS - Private services will be held for Dianna Foret, age 80, the former Dianna Gail Deshotels, who passed away Monday, April 24, 2023, at her residence in Opelousas surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Foret was a native of Ville Platte and was a lifelong resident of Opelousas.

EVELYN CAMPBELL GILBERT

In the early hours of April 5, 2023, Evelyn Campbell Gilbert passed away peacefully in her sleep at age 84 in Austin, Texas. She was a loving wife and mother of four children. A memorial service will be held on June 2, at Emmaus Catholic Church in Austin, Texas.

MAMOU - Joseph Felton Richard passed away on Monday, April 24, 2023, at the age of 79. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church in Mamou on Friday, April 28, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. Burial will follow at New St. Ann Cemetery in Mamou.

Ben is charged in death of toddler

On April 20, officers with the Ville Platte Police Department responded to 724 N Thompson Street in reference to a female sustaining a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, additional information was obtained, and the three-year-old female victim was located.

Fontenot is charged

On February 11, 2023, Detectives with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of LA 95 and Jake Ln. in reference to a drive by shooting that took place at that location.
