BHS Class of 2022 receive senior rings

Menier, McCoy, Palacios lead BHS Class of 2021 as top honor graduates

Valedictorian Alex Menier, Salutatorian Bryson McCoy, and Historian Jose Palacios finished their high school studies at the top of Basile High School’s Class of 2021 and were thus given the honors of leading the graduates during commencement exercises at McFarlain Memorial Gym on the BHS campus at the 7 p.m. ceremony held Friday, May 21.

Manuel, Craton are Mr. and Miss BHS

Cole Manuel and Riley Craton received top honors at the recent Basile High Academic Awards Ceremony where the couple were respectively named Mr. and Miss BHS 2021 as a result of a student body vote from a list of academically-talented students who are involved in school activities.

Community Fun Day and Co-Ed Softball Tourney set for July 10

The town of Basile along with local businesses, organizations, and community residents is sponsoring a family day on Saturday, July 10, at the town park. The day will include a Co-Ed Softball Tournament, fun jumps, face painting, other children’s activities, and concession sales with food and drinks.

MAMOU – Funeral services were held at a 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou for Russell “Smokey” Wayne Rider, Sr., 71, who passed away Saturday, May 22, 2021, in Baton Rouge.

Limited tax bonds are discussed

Evangeline Parish School Board CFO Amy LaFleur presented information about limited tax bonds at the May 20 meeting of the school board. The process involves the school board borrowing funds and using their excess revenue to pay it back. This money would be used for improvements on each school campus. “It is much like a loan,” said LaFleur, who added Evangeline Bank offered a 1.5% interest. The borrowed amount is $4.6 million.

Drug bust occurs on Bond Road

The Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Department's Criminal Patrol Unit, along with other deputies on Wednesday, May 19, executed a search warrant on the Bond Road. Deputies have receiving numerous complaints about drug activity at this residence.
