Memorial Day (Weather Permitting) The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 632 of Ville Platte, along with the Catholic Daughters, will host the Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 31, at 10 a.m. (weather permitting) at the Evangeline Parish Courthouse in Ville Platte.

LeBlanc earns promotion

JENNINGS – JD Bank is pleased to announce the promotion of Jimmy LeBlanc to EVP Chief Commercial Banking Officer. In this role LeBlanc will manage all commercial relationship activities, including management of the Commercial Lending and Treasury Management Departments.

EPSO Arrests

The Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office reported the following recent bookings into the parish jail. Arrested were the following persons: • Ashley Charlot, 38, Ville Platte, was arrested on May 20, 2021, by the Ville Platte Police Department for domestic abuse aggravated assault.

Manuel, Craton are Mr. and Miss BHS

Cole Manuel and Riley Craton received top honors at the recent Basile High Academic Awards Ceremony where the couple were respectively named Mr. and Miss BHS 2021 as a result of a student body vote from a list of academically-talented students who are involved in school activities.

Benoit receives B.S. from McNeese State

LAKE CHARLES - Tara Fontenot Benoit of Duralde, a Basile High School Class of 2018 alumnus, graduated from McNeese State University in Lake Charles on Friday, May 14 at 10 a.m. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Agribusiness and will be teaching Agricultural studies at Notre Dame High School in Crowley in the Fall.

Sisters graduate on same day

NEW ORLEANS / BATON ROUGE - Harry Jenkins of Basile is twice proud as both his oldest daughter Ursula and his youngest daughter Kelsey received graduate degrees recently. Ursula Lorenz graduated from Northwestern State University in May 2019 with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice and received her Master’s degree in Criminology and Justice from Loyola University New Orleans on May 15, 2021 at 6 p.m.

Lynesse Thompson, pictured above, is one of the graduates of the Basile High School Class of 2021. Her name and photo were inadvertently left out of last week’s graduation edition of The Basile Weekly.
