LSN Staff Report At a special meeting held Wednesday, Feb. 18, the Basile Town Council voted to appoint Nicholas Richardson as interim chief of police to complete the unexpired term of the late Allen Ivory Jr., which will end December 31, 2026.

Chief A. Perry Thomas reports there was a shooting on Sunday, February 22, 2026, after 3:00 p.m. at the South Soileau Apartments in Ville Platte. Two Black male victims, ages 30 and 33, sustained gunshot wounds. One victim was airlifted to Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria.

Suspect is charged in house fire

EVANGELINE PARISH – Authorities have arrested a Turkey Creek man following an investigation into a deliberately set house fire that destroyed a Mamou home earlier this year. Fire crews with the Mamou Fire Department were dispatched around 3:12 p.m.
