Jobless rates down; workforce grows

Tri-Parish unemployment rates and the workforce are down from a year ago, according to statistics released Tuesday by the Louisiana Workforce Commission. The Tri-Parish workforce number 67,716 in May, up 500 over May 2020. The workforce includes those people working and those looking for a job.

Gov. Edwards announces $315 million in funding going directly to communities

Staff Report BATON ROUGE — Gov. John Bel Edwards announced more than $315 million in federal coronavirus relief aid will be allocated to 290 Louisiana towns and cities under the American Rescue Plan to help them respond to the ongoing COVID-19 emergency and support economic recovery.

Legislators share update on session

BATON ROUGE – Despite this only being her second year in elected office, State Representative Rhonda Butler (R – Turkey Creek) was able to secure many wins for her rural district. “My job isn’t to do what’s best for me. My job is do what’s best for my people back home in District 38,” said Butler.

Louisiana COVID deaths spike over 1,000

As Louisiana's Corona virus numbers had seemed to be leveling, suddenly the state Tuesday posted the largest one-day spike in deaths, an additional 129, breaking above 1,000 in Louisiana's COVID-19 fatalities at 1,013.
