Contradanse opens festival

The annual Contrandanse held Tuesday evening October 11, kicked off Cotton Festival events for the week. A nice crowd turned out to support the event, and the nursing home residents enjoyed getting dressed up for an evening out. In the bottom left photo, Queen Cotton LXVII Holly Kay shares a dance with Layne Deville, one of the youth Contradanse dancers. Also at the event, the Heritage Manor Le Roi et La Reine of the Cotton Festival were crowned. In the top photo, Le Roi Earnest Anderson is shown with his La Reine Bernadine Fontenot. Anderson is 82 years old and a native of Ville Platte. He has been a resident of Heritage Manor for four months. He worked in construction and his hobbies include bingo and watching television. He has three children and six grandchildren. Fontenot is 85 years old and a native of Grand Prairie. She has been a resident of Heritage Manor for four years. She worked at a potato cannery and crawfish plant and her hobbies include bingo, working in her flower beds and going to the casino. She is the mother of four children (two deceased). Placing as first runners-up to the king and queen were residents Alvin Soileau and Evertra Soileau. (Gazette photos by Heather Bogard)
