STATE CHAMPION

With a mark of 6 feet, 4 inches, Michael Berry, a senior at Ville Platte High School, took home the state championship at the Ochsner/LHSAA Indoor Track meet. He edged out Pierre Wade of Oakdale and Dane Grow of Berwick. With the jump, Berry equaled his personal record.

Guide to constitutional amendments is released

With the election a month away where voters in the state will vote on four proposed constitutional amendments, the Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana (PAR) has released its guide to the ballot items. Amendment 1 on the ballot deals with collection of sales and use taxes.

GONZALES - Former Gov. Edwin W. Edwards, who embodied Louisiana’s populist era in the late 20th century — championing the poor and ushering Black people and women into state government — died just before 7 a.m. Monday at his home in Gonzales.

Jobless rates down; workforce grows

Tri-Parish unemployment rates and the workforce are down from a year ago, according to statistics released Tuesday by the Louisiana Workforce Commission. The Tri-Parish workforce number 67,716 in May, up 500 over May 2020. The workforce includes those people working and those looking for a job.

Gov. Edwards announces $315 million in funding going directly to communities

Staff Report BATON ROUGE — Gov. John Bel Edwards announced more than $315 million in federal coronavirus relief aid will be allocated to 290 Louisiana towns and cities under the American Rescue Plan to help them respond to the ongoing COVID-19 emergency and support economic recovery.
