Qualifying period ends for local races

As the November election date nears, local candidates began lining up at the Evangeline Parish Clerk of Court’s Office, on Wednesday, July 20, to submit their paperwork to the secretary of state’s office and qualify for their respective races.
The first candidate to qualify was Ryan Leday Williams, who is running for mayor of Ville Platte. He was followed by Wayne Dardeau, Evangeline Parish School Board District 4; Bobby Max Hamlin, Evangeline Parish School Board District 11; and Carilyn “Tu” Arvie, alderman for the village of Chataignier. Rounding out the first five was Robin Young, alderman District 4 in Mamou.
Also qualifying at the secretary of state’s office were several candidates seeking state office. Those offices include U.S. Senate, U.S. Representative 4th Congressional District, Judge Court of Appeal 3rd Court 3rd District, and Public Service Commission.
Qualifying ended on Friday, July 22, at 4:30 p.m.
