Workforce grows despite unemployment rate increase

Unemployment rates were up in the Tri-Parish area in June, but the workforce grew by 326 or 0.5% compared to June 2023. The Tri-Parish workforce in June totaled 69,281, up from 68,955 in June 2023, according to data released by the Louisiana Workforce Commission on July 26.

LSP makes arrest for possession of child sexual abuse material and narcotics

MAMOU - On July 31, the Louisiana State Police Special Victim’s Unit (LSP SVU) arrested an individual on charges related to the possession of child sexual abuse material and narcotics. The investigation resulted in the arrest of 42-year-old Trevor Matthews Sr., of Mamou.

The Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) released LEAP results for the 2023-2024 school year. Statewide data shows Louisiana students maintained recent gains made on the state assessment that measures proficiency in core academic subjects.
