By: TONY MARKS Editor Several high school baseball and softball teams are continuing their hot starts to the season. The following is a recap of some of the action. Basile (S) vs Elizabeth Basile scored six runs in the bottom of the first on its way to a 19-9 win to increase its record to 3-1.

McNeese rodeo teams are ranked nationally

The McNeese State University men’s and women’s rodeo teams enter the spring 2025 season both ranked nationally in several categories by the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) after competing in five rodeos in the fall.

By: DARREL LEJEUNE LSN Editor BOSSIER CITY – The Basile High Bearcat wrestling team claimed its sixth State Championship title at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) State Wrestling Tournament, held on February 14-15 at the Brookshire Arena in Bossier City.

By: SYLIS MANUEL Staff Reporter The Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs hosted the Mansfield Lady Wolverines Monday night and fell 45-32 in a game that was a lot closer than the score would suggest. The first period foreshadowed the rest of the game.

By: TONY MARKS Editor Defending your home field is imperative in sports. That is what the Pine Prairie softball team did Tuesday night as it won its home opener. With the 13-3 win over Bunkie, the Lady Panthers also improved to 5-0 on the season.

Soileau places in top 10 at state

Jackson Soileau, of Sacred Heart, competed in the LHSAA State Indoor Championships at the LSU Carl Maddox Field House, on Saturday, February 22. He finished in 10th place in Boys 1600 Meter Run Division II with a time of 4:46.43.

VP Lady Dogs slug their way to road win over EHS Lady Dogs

By: TONY MARKS Editor The Ville Platte High softball team improved to 2-0 on the season after slugging its way to a 22-21 win against the Elizabeth Lady Bulldogs. Camryn Charlie went the distance inside the circle as she gave up 24 hits and 18 earned runs while walking five and striking out five.

By: TONY MARKS Editor The Trojan baseball team got back to the win column with a 12-10 win over the Kinder Yellow Jackets. Payton Veillon started and went four innings on the mound. He gave up one earned run and struck out two batters.
