Locals qualify for national finals rodeo

By: TONY MARKS Editor Three Evangeline Parish students recently qualified for the National Junior High Finals Rodeo June 21-27 in Guthrie, Okla.
The Ville Platte 10U Softball All-Stars won the central regional section tournament. Players are Allie Rae Johnson, Aubrey Briley, Audrey Mire, Ella Veillon, Ellie Soileau, Kali Herbert, Keely Johnson, Madelyn Fontenot, Madison Ardoin, Maryellen Hebert, Olivia Delafosse, and Samiyah Thomas.

By: TONY MARKS Editor Ville Platte was well represented at the PONY Sectional Tournament in Kaplan as three teams emerged as section champions. A fourth team from the city, for good measure, finished the tournament as runner-up.

DYB 8U district tournament begins today in Ville Platte

By: TONY MARKS Editor Ville Platte will host the DYB 8U District Tournament beginning today, June 18, weather permitting. On Field 2, Ville Platte will play Vernon American at 5 p.m. in the first game of Pool 1. After Vernon American plays Avoyelles Parish at 6:30 p.m.

VP, Mamou take top spots in sub-district

By: TONY MARKS Editor MAMOU - Ville Platte and Mamou claimed the top two spots in the DYB 8U Coach Pitch East Sub-District Tournament. The two teams will now play in the District Tournament which begins Thursday, June 18, in Ville Platte.

The McNeese State University men’s rodeo team has claimed its fifth straight championship title in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association’s (NIRA) Southern Region, while the women’s team placed third.
