Fourth season of rec basketball is held

Councilman Shawn Roy recently held his fourth season of the St. John Summer Recreational Basketball League. It is a free Summer League, and it also has free Skills and Drills Camp two days a week.

By: DAN McDONALD Written for the LSWA It’s been a good few months for Jonathan Lucroy. Last August, the former Major League Baseball All-Star got the phone call from the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, letting him know that he would be honored with the state’s highest athletic accolade this summer.

The Mamou DYB 8U All-Stars claimed the district championship on Sunday, June 21, and will now head to the regional tournament in Bossier City. Players are Jarlon Anderson, Callen Landreneau, Eli Briscoe, Darien Dicks, Hunter Mouton, Lane Mayeaux, Rhett Pierrottie, Gannon Watson, Mardi Gaspard, Coy Landreneau, Brenton Doyle, and Dax Guillory.

Mamou 8U All-Stars force deciding game against VP to win DYB district title

By: TONY MARKS Editor VILLE PLATTE - The Mamou 8U All-Stars went through the loser’s bracket and forced a winner-take-all game against previously undefeated Ville Platte on their way to the DYB District 7 championship. The team will now compete in regional tournament in Bossier City.

The Ville Platte DYB 9U All-Stars claimed the district title on Saturday, June 20, and will now head to the regional tournament in Bossier City. Players are William Fontenot, Hudson Lafleur, Walker Hebert, Carter Edwards, Luca Dupre, Graham Vidrine, EJ Bias, Andress Eades, Max Vidrine, Paul Inhern, Paxton Monier, and Emmitt Payne.

The Mamou DYB 10U All-Stars competed in the District 7 Tournament in Hornbeck and went 5-0 to become district champions. The team will now compete in the regional tournament in Jackson Parish.
