The Lady Bulldogs didn't make it easy for the competition. After recording an upset of No. 14 St. James in the opening round of the Class 3A girls playoffs, No. 19 Ville Platte was looking to notch another upset against No. 3 South Beauregard on Monday night.

Boys’ basketball pairings are released

Launey Coward knew his team needed to play a game. The Ville Platte High boys basketball team had not played a contest since Jan. 29 due to COVID-19 contact tracing protocols. That wiped out seven games on the schedule, and then the winter storm cancelled two more games.

Rhonda Thomas has already faced St. James. During her senior senior season at Ville Platte High School, Thomas helped the Lady Bulldogs into the second round of the Class 2A playoffs. Ville Platte took on St. James in the second round and the result is one Thomas has yet to forget, a 104-67 defeat.

Regular season comes to an end for parish girls’ basketball teams

The Lady Panthers wrapped up the regular season with a pair of defeats. In Tuesday's non-district contest against North Central, Pine Prairie hung tough for all four quarters but fell just short of pulling out the win in a 48-44 loss.
