Do you hear that? It is the proverbial calm before the storm before high school football begins. This past weekend was the last weekend without high school football through December. Because of that, I stayed home this past weekend and caught up on some rest.

Due to an absentee landlord, the Southland Conference had become a small town’s derelict property -- a once proud family home that had turned into a neighborhood eyesore where kids throw rocks through windows, and homeless and opossums alike utilize it as shelter on stormy nights.
