Football season: Perfect way to burn off summertime blues

I’m sorry that we’re still sweating through the dog days of summer and all the rain has certainly made your lawn more fruitful than it’s ever been as well.
That being said, I’ve got great news … relief is upon us.
Soon and very soon, the dog days of summer will give way to the Friday Night Lights, college football Saturdays and NFL Sundays.
And honestly, I can’t be more excited. For so many reasons.
First, there’s just the idea of cooler weather. We’ve earned it after this summer. Gumbos, potato salads, meatball stews and perhaps maybe even an adult beverage or two.
There’s nothing better than a fall food menu, and I defy you to say otherwise.
Secondly, and here’s a little known secret about me, is football season is more fantasy football season for me than anything else.
It’s a terrible addiction, I admit. But, having a home league and two other salary cap dynasties take up most of my fall time.
Rookie drafts. Free agent auctions. Contract allocations. It’s a seriously good time for a dork like myself.
Lastly, and most importantly, this is the time of the year where I feel most at home at work.
There is nothing I love more in covering high school sports than football seasons.
District races. School traditions. Uniforms. Getting to know coaches and players. Travelling with teams. It’s all fascinating to me and a blast.
There are the emerging stars. The broken records. The dream every team has of going to “The Dome” as it has famously come to be known.
And what better way to wash down a Friday night than with a Saturday night in Tiger Stadium.
I’m as pumped up as anyone to see what LSU looks like under Brian Kelly.
Then, there’s the team I’m most passionate about in my New Orleans Saints.
There is no relationship with any team that runs as deep for me as my bond with the Saints.
Most people’s 2019 LSU season was my 2009 with the Saints. Seeing them win the Super Bowl was a dream come true, and one I hope to experience again in my lifetime.
Regardless of whether of not the dog days have you burnt out, one thing is for sure …
Football season will be here soon enough to take those summer blues away.
