LAFAYETTE – Ty'Reona Doucet has made Ragin' Cajun history.
The former Ville Platte High girls basketball star helped the University of Louisiana this year claim the Sun Belt Conference regular season championship for the first time in program's history.
Doucet was one of three Ragin' Cajun players on Thursday to earn All-SBC honors, and the only one to be placed on the first team. The other players honored were Brandi Williams who received second-team honors and Skyler Goodwin who was placed on the third team.
The three All-SBC honorees marks the first time since 1984 -- and the first time during the SBC era -- that the Ragin' Cajuns have had three players earn all-conference honors in the same season.
Doucet earned All-SBC first team honors after leading the league with a 52.4 percent field goal percentage, while also averaging 8.1 rebounds per game, the seventh best average in the conference.
Doucet also ranked third on the Ragin' Cajuns in scoring (10.7 points), while also leading the team in total rebounds (154) and blocks (33).
Doucet was especially impactful on defense.
The 6-foot-1 forward recorded three or more blocks in four games, recorded 20 steals and was selected as the SBC's Defensive Player of the Year. Doucet is the first Ragin' Cajun to receive the honor.
Doucet also became the first Ragin’ Cajun women's player to earn first-team honors since Jaylyn Gordon for the 2016-17 season.
Doucet's senior season is not over yet.
The Ragin' Cajuns (16-6) will be making their first ever appearance in the Women's NIT. The Lady Cajuns will take on the Colorado Lady Buffaloes in Boulder in the first round tomorrow, March 19, at 2 p.m.
