Pine Prairie softball upsets Iota

Momentum-swinging wins are always huge for programs.
The Pine Prairie Lady Panthers got one of those earlier this week, upsetting 5-3A rival Iota 7-5 in softball action.
A three-run bottom of the fifth propelled Pine Prairie to a 7-5 lead they would hold on to, after holding off a potential Iota rally in the top of the seventh inning.
First baseman Alaine Boutte went 1-for-3 with 3 RBI to lead Pine Prairie in their win over Iota.
In other action in the week, Pine Prairie softball dropped a 15-5 contest to Buckeye before the Iota win and then beat False River 14-4 the next day to complete a winning week.
Mamou Softball
The Lady Demons dropped their one contest of the week, being shut out by Church Point 1-0 on Monday in a pitcher’s duel.
Starter Kylie Rider only gave up five hits, but the Lady Demons couldn’t manage to scratch a run across.
Ville Platte Softball
The Lady Bulldogs were shutout 6-0 by Church Point on Monday afternoon. Church Point pounded out 10 hits and limited Ville Platte to three hits.
Mamou Baseball
After being red-hot the previous week, the Green Demons struggled this week, being outscored a combined 25-2 by Pine Prairie and Welsh.
Mamou gave up seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning against Pine Prairie to come up with the margin, and never got off the ground against the Greyhounds.
Pine Prairie Baseball
After scorching Mamou the previous day, the Panthers came back to earth Tuesday against Iota, losing 14-0.
Iota pounded out 20 hits against the Panthers and never looked back, giving up only two hits in the process.
Ville Platte Baseball
After being blown out the previous day, Ville Platte took a hard-luck 8-7 loss to Church Point on Wednesday.
Church Point’s Morgan Carriere hit a walk-off single to score the winning run and send the Bulldogs home disappointed.
Sacred Heart Baseball
The Trojans split a two-day doubleheader with Port Barre this week, losing 6-3 on Monday and responding with a resounding 17-0 win on Tuesday.
Sacred Heart pounded 12 hits and was spearheaded by six-run framces in the second and fourth innings. The Trojans only allowed one hit and took advantage of eight Port Barre errors.
