EUNICE – LSU Eunice saw its season come to an end on Tuesday as Holmes CC took down the Bengals 79-64 in the Region 23 Quarterfinals at the HPRE Center. The Bengals finish the season 12-1 after a second consecutive LCCAC championship.
Holmes was quick out of the gates, taking a quick 7-1 lead and never looking the back. The Bengals would get within 3, 19-16, after a long Jonathan Cisse three pointer but it is as close as LSUE would get in the game.
HCC responded by taking a double digit lead in the first half before LSUE closed the gap, 38-34, at half.
The Bulldogs would see their lead swell to 19 points in the second half before the Bengals cut that in half to 8 with 5:23 remaining. Holmes always had an answer for LSUE, led by a 28-point performance from Brandon Weatherspoon.
Weatherspoon spearheaded a Holmes offense that shot 30-for-56 (53.6%) from the field including 8-for-20 from three-point range. Jonathan Cisse (Grand Coteau, St. Thomas More HS) led the Bengals' cause with 29 points while Isaiah Payne (Ville Platte, Pine Prairie HS) added 13.
Holmes advanced to the Region 23 Semifinals to face top-seed Pearl River.
