Parish teams find more mixed results

Evangeline Parish softball and baseball programs took a big step up in competition over the past week and had varying degrees of success over the past week.

SOFTBALL
Pine Prairie
The Lady Panthers played a tough non-district schedule over the past week, playing 17-5 Iowa, 19-2 Northside Christian and 16-5-1 Calvary Baptist. Pine Prairie struggled in what they will look back on as a playoff warmup, losing 13-3 to Iowa, competing hard against Northside Christian in an 8-5 loss and falling 7-3 to Calvary Baptist.
Mamou
The Lady Demons played five games over the past week, including three games at the Bell City Tournament and went 2-1 over the weekend in that tournament while scoring 31 runs.
Mamou started with a hard-luck 12-11 loss to Iota in district play, and opened the Bell City tournament with a 5-4 loss to Caldwell Parish. However, the Demons closed the week on a three-game winning streak, a 10-9 win over Bell City, a 16-1 win over Grand Lake and a 12-2 district win over Ville Platte Monday afternoon.
Sacred Heart
The Lady Trojans dropped a pair of games in district play, a 10-2 loss to St. Edmund’s, 13-2 overall, and a 7-0 loss Monday evening to 16-5 Catholic-Point Coupee.

BASEBALL
Pine Prairie
The Panthers (13-9) scored a pair of wins over the past week, an 8-5 non-district win over Glenmora last Friday and a 9-0 District 5-3A win over Mamou on Monday.
Mamou
Mamou played a slim schedule last week, one district 5-3A contest against Pine Prairie. The Green Demons were shut out 9-0.
Ville Platte
Ville Platte played Iota twice in District 5-3A play last week and lost both matchups, 8-0 last Friday and 16-0 on Monday to push its overall record to 5-3 this season.
Sacred Heart
After defeating Eunice in non-district play on Saturday, the Trojans responded with a 6-4 win over Jena on the road in non-district play Monday.
