Parish track meet is held at Basile and dominated by VPHS and PP

To say the Parish Track Meet, held Thursday in Basile, was dominated by two programs would be an understatement.
Pine Prairie and Ville Platte split the honors between the boys’ and girls’ meets, respectively, with each program then taking second place in the opposite meet as well.
The Pine Prairie boys posted 168 points in the boys meet to outpace the Bulldogs by 35 points, who finished second at 133 points.
Pine Prairie was especially dominant in field events on the boys’ side, posting first-place finishes in discus (Cory Higginbotham; 105’), javelin (Austen Bass; 126’4”) and shot put (Higginbotham; 37’7”) while taking seconds in pole vault (Kaleb Maricle; 7’) and high jump (Josiah Otis; 6’0”) and also posting second-place individual finishes in javelin (Wyatt Welch; 117’10” and shot put (David Fraeman; 37’7”.
The Panthers also added firsts in the 400M relay (Veillon, George, Ricks, Lemalle; 47.19) and the 1600M relay (Burke, Lemelle, Ricks, Ortis; 3:51) to complete its domination of the boys field.
In the other events, Ville Platte’s Michael Berry won high jump with a leap of 6’4”, Mamou’s Trayvon Raino took 100/110M and 300M hurdles with times of 18.16 seconds and 43.73 seconds, Ville Platte’s team of Calvin, Frank, Williams and Fontenot won the 800M relay at 1:35.78.
Mamou’s Trenton Pitre took the mile run at 5:21.12, while Omarion Frank of Ville Platte won the 100M with a time of 11.14 seconds. Basile’s Logan Guillory paced the 800M at 2:19.38, PIne Prairie’s Josiah Ortis took the 400 at 54.78 seconds.
Ville Platte’s Frank and Mamou’s Pitre rounded out boys individual winners with times of 23.14 in the 200M for Frank and 12:01 in the 2-mile run for Pitre.
Basile finished third, Mamou fourth, and Sacred Heart fifth to round out the boys’ meet.
In the girls’ meet, Ville Platte’s ability to consistently post top-three finishes in events provided the difference.
The Lady Bulldogs posted first place finishes in the 800M relay, the 1600M run, the 100M dash, the 100/110 hurdles and the 3200M run. They added seconds in javelin, shot put, 300M hurdles, 1600M run, 800M run, the 400M relay and the 200M dash and third-place finishes in discus, high jump, 100M dash and the 1600M relay.
Individual winners were as follows: Discus -- Macie Campbell, Pine Prairie, 81’9”; Javelin -- Abby Arnaud, Pine Prairie, 92’8”; Shot put -- Lainey Soileau, Basile, 29’8”; High Jump -- Aliyah Soileau, Pine Prairie, 5’1”; 300M Hurdles -- Carly Cloud, Sacred Heart, 56.91; 800M relay -- Ville Platte (Coward, Hickerson, Leday, Willis), 1:57.47; 1600M -- Drayua Wilson, Ville Platte, 6:31.38; 100M -- Kayden Coward, Ville Platte, 12.74; 100 hurdles -- Jayla Williams, Ville Platte, 18.59; 800M -- Frida Alvarez, Basile, 2:37.92; 400M relay -- Pine Prairie (Doucet, Williams, Soileau, George), 54.75; 400M -- Alvarez, Basile, 1:08.2; 200M -- Asia George, Pine Prairie, 26.87; 3200M -- Wilson, Ville Platte, 14:31; 1600M relay -- Pine Prairie (Doucet, Holston, Soileau, George), 4:47.09.
Basile finished third, Mamou fourth and Sacred Heart fifth in team results.
