You win some, and you lose some.
This old adage applied this week to the Mamou Softball Demons as they got past West Feliciana in the opening round of the Class 3A softball playoffs but fell to Kaplan in consecutive nights.

Mamou vs.
West Feliciana
Mamou won its opening playoff game at home behind a complete game from starting pitcher Jennifer Fontenot on Monday, April 19. In her seven innings of work, she struck out five while only walking one Lady Saint.
Offensively, Fontenot went one-for-three.
Mamou struck first on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first as Kylie Rider went home on a Jaidan Richard single. Rider reached base on a walk to lead off the inning.
The score remained 1-0 in favor of Mamou until the bottom of the fourth inning. Ja’Kyra Mose reached base in that frame on a dropped third strike that went for a passed ball. She moved up to second base on a hit-by-pitch and later scored on a single from Taylor Douget.

Mamou vs.
Kaplan
The next night, on Tuesday, April 20, the Lady Demons traveled to Kaplan and battled hard to hold the Lady Pirates to two runs. However, Mamou only managed a single run in the losing effort to end its season.
Fontenot got the start inside the circle again for her Lady Demons and pitched six innings of work. She allowed both runs on seven hits while striking out 10 Lady Pirates and walking one.
Both of Kaplan’s runs came in the bottom of the first inning.
Mamou began its comeback attempt in the top of the fourth when Douget ripped a triple with one out. Kylie McGee then went in as a courtesy runner for Douget. With two outs in the inning, McGee scored on a passed ball. The next two batters reached base to load the bases, but a strikeout ended the threat.
