Mamou boys split pair; Ville Platte girls fall to Opelousas

It was not an easy two days for a couple of teams in the parish, as the Mamou Demons split a pair of games at the Brad Fontenot Memorial Tournament on the campus of St. Edmund, while the Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs fell hard to the Opelousas Lady Tigers in the Northwest Holiday Classic.
With the split, Mamou moves to 3-11 on the season. The Demons are scheduled to take on Sulphur on the road January 5.
Ville Platte falls to 5-2 on the season with the loss. The Lady Bulldogs are set to tackle Avoyelles Public Charter on January 8.
Here is a rundown of those three games played.

Mamou vs.
South Cameron
It was a banner night for the Mamou Demons in their first game of the Brad Fontenot Memorial Tournament. The Demons came out gunning, outscoring South Cameron 20-9 in the first quarter of play.
In that initial period, Collin Enicke torched the nets for 12 points, with all of those points coming via buckets beyond the arc. Devin Ardoin collected six points of his own in that same quarter.
The second quarter saw pretty much the same scenario as the first quarter. Behind four different players scoring multiple baskets, including Tyrian Broussard’s eight points, Mamou outpaced the Tarpons 22-11 to take a 22 point lead into the locker room.
The Demons continued their success on both sides of the floor in the second half, garnering a 16-4 advantage in the third quarter and a 15-10 advantage in the final period to take a 73-34 win. Enicke led all scorers on the night with 22 points, while Broussard and AJ Arvie each added 13 points. Ardoin picked up 12 points in the win.

Mamou vs. Notre Dame
As great as Mamou played offensively on Monday night against South Cameron, the Demons did not hold up the scoring in their game Tuesday versus Notre Dame.
Mamou stayed with the Pioneers in the first half, tying Notre Dame at 10-10 by the end of the first quarter. The second period found the Pioneers owning a 15-10 advantage to take down the Demons 52-28.
However, the final two quarters were not kind to Mamou, as they managed to score only seven points in the third quarter and one point in the final period.

Ville Platte
vs. Opelousas
Unfortunately, this game was not close for the Lady Bulldogs. Opelousas came out firing away, taking a 31-16 lead into the locker room and holding on for a 65-35 win.
The Lady Bulldogs tried to fight back in the second half, but could not overcome the momentum built up by the Lady Tigers.
Trinity Leday led the way for Ville Platte with 10 points on the night.
