MAMOU -- It was a big week for the Mamou Green Demons in baseball.
Over the past three games, the Green Demons have put up 38 runs and won all three games to run its overall record closer to .500 for the season.
Those wins, a 13-9 effort over Marksville Tuesday, and 10-0 and 15-1 double-header wins over Northwest on April Fool’s Day, have moved the Green Demons up to second place in District 5-3A play.
Andre Tate’s fifth-inning ground ball that scored Acetyn Martel gave Mamou the lead for good in their three-run fifth. The Green Demons added two insurance runs in the seventh inning for extra breathing room.
The April 1 double-header was never in doubt for Mamou, with Aubrey Martel only allowing one hit and striking out seven Raiders in his five-inning complete game showing to wrap up the first game..
Martel, A.J. Arvie and Donovyn Henderson chipped in two RBI each in the contest as Mamou pounded out 10 hits.
That performance seemed tame compared to the next game, when Mamou plated a combined 13 runs in the third and fourth innings.
Those 13 runs came on an efficient eight hits, with Tate and Matthew Fontenot each providing extra base hits in the game and the Green Demons stealing five bases in the game to play a little small-ball.
Starter Wyatt Johnson struck out eight hitters in four innings of work for Mamou to earn the win.
In area softball, Pine Prairie (4-8) defeated Mamou 9-4 on Tuesday and Iota run-ruled Ville Platte (3-9) 13-3 Wednesday.
