Mamou baseball ends losing skid; other teams pick up wins

The Mamou baseball team wrapped up last week by snapping a four-game losing streak.
Mamou opened up the Eunice Tournament by suffering a 20-1 defeat to Plaquemine, who scored seven runs in both the second and the fifth innings. Mamou then dropped a 15-2 decision to Welsh on Friday. The Greyhounds scored six runs in the third, then added two more in the fourth and fifth innings before getting five more in the sixth.
The losing though would come to an end with a 7-5 win over Northside Christian on Saturday. The Green Demons got a run in the first, two more in the fourth, fifth and sixth.
Mamou followed that up by gutting out a 5-4 win over Oakdale on Tuesday.
Mamou (5-6) will open up District 5-3A play on Thursday with hosting Ville Platte.

Baseball
Pine Prairie
Pine Prairie went to the Glenmora Tournament last weekend and took three of four games.
Pine Prairie opened up the tournament with a 9-6 win over East Beauregard on Thursday and then followed that up with a 5-4 victory over host Glenmora. Pine Prairie did drop a 14-2 decision to Elizabeth on Friday but ended the tournament with a 10-4 victory over Oberlin.
Pine Prairie then opened up this week with a 13-3 loss to Simpson but bounced back with a victory against the only team that beat them at the Glenmora Tournament -- Elizabeth -- and defeated them 3-2.
Pine Prairie (8-7) opens up District 5-3A play at Northwest on Thursday.

Softball
Sacred Heart
Sacred Heart went three-for-three at the Tioga Tournament last weekend.
Sacred Heart blanked St. Mary’s 10-0 on Friday, then defeated Oak Hill 7-6 on Saturday before closing out tournament play by winning a high-scoring affair against Georgetown 14-12.
Sacred Heart led off this week with a 22-0 victory over Breaux Bridge on Monday. The Trojans though would open up District 5-1A play on Tuesday with a defeat -- a 6-5 decision to Opelousas Catholic.
Sacred Heart (11-4, 0-1) is scheduled to play at Notre Dame on Thursday.

Mamou
The Mamou Green Demons won two of their three games at the Tioga Tournament over the weekend. With the two wins, Mamou has now won four of its last five games.
After dropping its first game 8-2 to Beau Chene on Friday, Mamou responded by scoring double-digit runs in wins against Oak Hill and Northwood-Shreveport. In those two games, the Green Demons outscored the competition 25-2.
Mamou (8-6) was scheduled to take on District 5-3A for Pine Prairie on Wednesday and host Northwest on Thursday.

Pine Prairie
After having its early-season schedule wiped out due to COVID-19 protocols, Pine Prairie played its first game of the season on Monday. The contest unfortunately did not go the Panthers’ way as Pine Prairie lost 7-6 on the road to Southside High.
Pine Prairie (0-1) is scheduled to begin District 5-3A play this week with hosting Mamou on Wednesday, and then playing on the road at Iota on Thursday.

Ville Platte
The Ville Platte Bulldogs opened up District 5-3A play with one loss and one win. Ville Platte began district play with a 9-4 loss to Mamou but got in the win column on Tuesday with a 9-7 decision over Iota.
Ville Platte (2-6, 1-1) is scheduled to play at Church Point on Thursday.
