LHSAA announces Prep Classic game schedule; area teams still in the hunt

BATON ROUGE -- On Monday, the Louisiana High School Athletic Association released the Prep Classic football state championship game schedule to be played December 27-30 at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches.
The Prep Classic, a fixture in New Orleans, had to be moved from the Superdome because of the concern that not enough fans would be able to attend due to COVID-19 restrictions in the Crescent City.
The first two games to be played on Sunday include the Class 2A contest (1 p.m.) and the Division I game (6 p.m.)
Monday’s schedule has three games on tap, at 11 a.m. (Class 1A), 3 p.m. (Division III) and 7:30 p.m. (Division II).
The Division IV and Class 4A games are to take place on Tuesday with 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. start times respectfully.
The final day of play will see the Class 3A game start at 1 p.m. and the Class 5A game begin at 6 p.m.
As of this Friday night, several Acadiana area teams are still in the hunt for a state title.
In Class 5A, perennial powerhouse Acadiana High, the No. 1 seed will take on Destrehan tomorrow night in the semi-finals. Another No. 1 seed, Carencro, hosts Neville in a Class 4A semi-final.
Class 3A will see the No. 4 seed Church Point Bears hosting No. 9 Madison Prep. This is the first semi-final game in the history of Church Point.
Number six Kinder travels to No. 2 Mangham in the Class 2A semi-finals.
The Division II finals are already set as No. 2 St. Thomas More will battle No. 1 De LaSalle. In the Division III championship game, No. 5 Lafayette Christian will collide with No. 2 St. Charles.
