Pine Prairie takes down Mamou in grand fashion

PINE PRAIRIE – The Pine Prairie Lady Panthers left no doubt who the better team was, as they took down the Mamou Lady Demons in grand fashion, 61-22, this past Friday night.
With the win, Pine Prairie moves to 12-5 on the season and 2-1 in District 5-3A. The Lady Panthers are scheduled to host Ville Platte tomorrow night in a second round league matchup.
The loss drops Mamou to 2-17 on the year and 0-4 in district play. The Lady Demons host Church Point tomorrow night.
All that one needed to know about how the game played out, just need to see the box score of the first quarter of play. Using a 2-2-1 full court press, Pine Prairie forced several Mamou turnovers and turned them into a bevy of points.
By the time the game reached the three-minute mark, the Lady Panthers owned a 10-0 lead. Pine Prairie finished the period with an additional three points to take a huge lead into the second quarter.
There was not an ounce of let down from the Lady Panthers to start the ensuing period. Over the first 1:13 seconds, Pine Prairie remained aggressive on the defensive side of the floor enough to reel off another six unanswered points.
Mamou finally got on the board 16 seconds later when Madison Fontenot knocked down a three-point basket. From that point forward, the Lady Panthers kept the peddle to the floorboard, finishing the half off on a 14-3 run to take a 33-6 lead into the locker room.
The third quarter went a little better for the Lady Demons on the offensive end of the hardwood. However, Pine Prairie did not relent one iota.
After the Lady Panthers opened the period on a 6-0 run, Fontenot blasted the nets with another shot from beyond the arc. The quarter ended fairly even, with Pine Prairie garnering a 5-4 advantage over the final 3:40.
The final period followed suit with the rest of the game, as the Lady Panthers rode their 33 point lead all the way to a 39 point win.
Brashaylan Doucet led the way for Pine Prairie with a game high 22 points. Kameron Allen chipped in 16 points for the Lady Panthers.
Carlee Berzas picked up eight points for Mamou.
