Laden with accolades: All-District basketball teams are announced

Ernest Roberts highlights the group of Evangeline Parish basketball players who received all-district honors this season.
The Ville Platte High senior forward earned first-team District 5-3A honors, and was selected as the District MVP in a vote conducted by the district's coaches. Roberts averaged 16 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocked shots per game.
Roberts was joined on the boys first team by teammate Tye'wuan Byers. The Bulldogs guard averaged 12 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals per game.
Ville Platte junior Tauj Roy picked up second-team honors after averaging 13 points, 4 assists and 3 steals per game. Davontae Fontenot earned honorable mention honors.
Ville Platte's Montavis Seraille and RJ Williams meanwhile were selected to the All-Defensive Team.
Ville Platte was also well represented on the girls team for District 5-3A.
Trinity Leday earned first-team honors as she averaged 10 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals per game for the Lady Bulldogs who reached the second-round of the state playoffs.
Leday's teammate Shayla Hickerson earned second-team honors after she averaged 8 points,10 rebounds and 2 blocks per game.
Ville Platte's Vandryua Wilson picked up honorable mention honors, while Kaydan Coward and Alyssa Soileau were selected to the All-Defensive Team.
Pine Prairie also had multiple Panthers recognized on both the girls and boys squads.
Pine Prairie senior Kameron Allen earned first-team honors after she averaged 15 points, 3 assists, 4 rebounds per game.
Allen's fellow Lady Panther seniors Brashaylan Doucet and Asia George both earned second-team honors. Doucet averaged 13.8 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals per game, while George averaged 11 points and 5 steals per game.
Pine Prairie's Brianna Wall was selected to the All-Defensive Team as she provided the Lady Panthers with 8 points, 6 rebounds and 7 blocks per game this season. Maycie Hardy and Aliyah Soileau also received honorable mention honors.
Pine Prairie junior forward Josiah Ortis and sophomore guard Dajon Lemalle earned honorable mention honors on the boys team, and were both selected to the All-Defensive Team.
Ortis averaged 11 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks per game, while Lemalle contributed 11 points and 3 rebounds per game.
The Mamou Demons placed players on both the boys and girls teams for District 5-3A.
Mamou's Collin Enicke was placed on the second-team, as he averaged 14 points for the Demons. Tyrian Broussard meanwhile earned honorable mention honors after averaging 9 points and 10 rebounds.
Trae Gallow was placed on the All-Defensive Team.
On the girls team, Mamou's Markaysha Johnson earned honorable mention honors and was selected to the All-Defensive Team. Johnson's Demon teammate Madison Fontenot was named honorable mention.
There was no Coach of the Year for the boys selected in District 5-3A due to most teams only playing each other once -- if they played at all. Iota's Avery Young and Meghan Lejeune meanwhile were named the girls MVP and Coach of the Year.
Sacred Heart had both boys and girls players receive all-district recognition.
Sacred Heart junior Austin Darbonne earned first-team honors on the District 5-1A boys squad. Darbonne averaged 14 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.2 steals per game for the Trojans who earned a berth in the Division IV playoffs.
Sacred Heart senior Breck Beaver was selected to the All-Defense Team, while juniors Sam Fontenot and Isaac Leger earned honorable mention honors. Fontenot averaged 9.4 points (shooting 76.9 percent from three-point range in district play) and 1.2 assists per game, while Leger gave the Trojans 6.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game.
Opelousas Catholic's Keon Coleman was chosen as District 5-1A MVP and North Central's Chris Cain was named Coach of the Year.
The girls team had Sacred Heart freshman Kali Shiver earn second-team honors, while junior Carley Cloud received honorable mention honors. Freshman Ava Johnson was placed on the All-Defensive Team.
Opelousas Catholic's Connie Thierry was named Coach of the Year.
Basile's Lainey Soileau meanwhile received second-team District 4-1A honors on the girls side after averaging 19.2 points, 14.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.9 steals and 2.3 blocks per game.
Basile's Kydin Thomas received honorable mention honors on the District 4-1A boys team.
Merryville's Maddie Mahfouz and Stormy Fortenberry were named District 4-1A Girls MVP and Coach of the Year.
Elton's Demarcus Jack and Carlo Maggio were selected as the District 4-1A Boys MVP and Coach of the Year.
