VILLE PLATTE -- The Iota Bulldogs traveled to Ville Platte on a chilly Friday night looking to get back to their winning ways and put a halt to their three-game slide.
They would accomplish just that as they defeated the host Bulldogs of Ville Platte by a final score of 37-0.
With the loss, Ville Platte fell to 1-3 on the season and 1-1 in District 5-3A play. The Bulldogs travel to Church Point this coming Friday for another league clash.
Iota got off to a slow start for much of the first quarter but was able to put up 21 unanswered points to close out the first half.
Ville Platte won the toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff. Iota’s defense came out on fire as they would hold Ville Platte to a negative three yards of offense on the opening drive.
However, Ville Platte converted the fourth and 13 on a fake by punter J.B Edwards. The host Bulldogs kept possession and drove to the Iota 24-yard line before safety Luke Duhon collected the first of his two interceptions of the night and return the ball out to the Ville Platte 40-yards line.
A deep drive into Ville Platte territory turned up empty for Iota as they were forced to punt after two consecutive big play losses.
Ville Platte wouldn’t get much going on their follow-up possession as safety Owen Daigle picked off quarterback Jacoby Lavergne to set Iota up in Ville Platte territory.
Behind the strong running of running back Jacob Cormier, Iota drove down to the Ville Platte three-yard line where quarterback Dawson Wallace called his own number for the three yard touchdown run.
Kicker Louis Doroteo split the uprights on the point after and Iota would go ahead 7-0.
The Iota stingy defense again forced another Ville Platte punt putting the visiting Bulldogs back in business inside Ville Platte territory once again. Iota slot receiver Zan Connor hit pay dirt for the Bulldogs this time on a jet sweep around the left side behind the blocks of tackle Hans Lacasse and running back Jacob Cormier.
The 10-yard run was followed by the Doroteo PAT and Iota led 14-0 with 4:45 left to play before half.
Iota found the end zone one more time before half as Wallace scored his second rushing touchdown of the night from 4 yards out. Wallace finished the night with 40 yards rushing and two scores on 6 carries for the Bulldogs. With the Wallace touchdown, Iota lead 21-0 at the break.
Iota scored twice more in the third quarter, once on a 40 yard touchdown run by Owen Harmon and the second time on a seven yard touchdown pass from Wallace to Dylan Callahan.
The final score by Iota came late in the game when Doreto nailed a 30 yard field goal.
